Carova Beach 2011

A common conversation this summer...
Anyone: Where did you go on vacation?
Us: Carova Beach
Anyone: Where?
Us: Carova Beach. In the Outer Banks, NC
Anyone: Oh, you mean Carolla!
Us: Nope...Carova
Anyone: Where?
Us: Nevermind...you don't know unless you've been there!

Th is year, we were invited to join our great friends on their annual summer vacation to Carova Beach, NC. I had never seen anything like it!

Set aside the hot sand and cold water of the California beaches, and forget about the crazy hustle&bustle of people at Daytona Beach, FL and Myrtle Beach, SC. The beach here at Carova was beautiful! The sand dunes stretched forever...the water was perfect, and the sunrises were amazing. And we were so secluded that you would have never guessed we were just a few miles away from the very popular OBX area.

Carova Beach is out in the 4x4 area, where you actually have to drive on the sand to reach the beach houses. And as you drive around the sand, at the edge of the water or up on the dunes you can see all of the beautiful wild horses that are roaming the area.

We headed down to the beach early on a Saturday morning. 4 adults, 11 kids, 4 dogs ad 1.1 million beach toys and boogie boards...could it get any crazier?

We got settled into our house and really were able to enjoy the week of just relaxing and spending time together. No plans, no schedule. Just fun. And with at least 200 yards of beach to ourselves each day, we had plenty of fun!

Most days were spent on the beach. Catching waves, building sand castles, & fishing.  We did spend one day in town to do a little shopping and take part in a 'friendly' go-kart race. Was it my fault that their car went spinning around in circles??? :) Yep, I think it was.

Then after some putting practice and cornhole, we were ready for Jimmy's seafood buffet. If you love seafood, it is TOTALLY worth the trip. But if you are looking for crablegs - Im pretty sure my boys at them all. Sorry!

Our first encounter with the horses...they were beautiful!
Chris loved driving his jeep along the water's edge
